On Saturday night at 7 PM, April 27th, the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas played the Arlington Renegades at the Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

We’re in week 5 already, UFL fans. Can you believe it? We’re half way through the regular season. Time flies when you’re having fun!

The Brahmas Are Heading to the Bahamas

Arlington’s starting QB, Luis Perez, is still leading the pack in passing yards. He has 100 yards over a seasoned player like A.J. McCarron, raking in a total of 1151 passing yards. It did not count in week 5, once again. How many more passing yards does Perez need to win a game?

Let’s just say here that the 179 rushing yards between John Lovett and Morgan Ellison, running backs for San Antonio, made this game the win that it was. Did Arlington have a chance to win? Probably not. But the point differential would have been less.

The 1st Half

In San Antonio’s first possession, they came away with a field goal. In one minute and 40 seconds, the Brahmas followed their field goal with a TD, assisted hugely by Morgan Ellison. We’re sitting at 9-0, folks.

Linebacker Delontae Scott was the bane of the Renegades existence. He made his presence known upon his return from an injury. Luis Perez didn’t miss him. Perez nearly managed to get a TD anyway, but didn’t. At least, they finally got on the board with a field goal.

San Antonio re-spanked Arlington with another TD when John Lovett ran the ball in. We’re at 15 and 3, at this point. The Renegades are inching closer to a comeback with Luis Perez throwing an amazing 52-yard TD to JaVonta Payton. We’re at 15–9, folks. It’s a one-score game.

The 2nd Half

Jonathan Garibay kept the momentum going with a field goal for Arlington, with the score sitting at 15-12. Garibay repeated the performance with the team’s next possession, leaving the game tied 15-15.

Lovett was unstoppable, securing another TD at the beginning of the 4th quarter. A successful two-point conversation left the UFL franchise sitting pretty at 22-15. John Lovett made the ball pretty far down the field in their next possession. Kicker Ryan Santoso finished the drive, giving the team another field goal.

The Brahmas were able to control the clock enough to drain it, giving Arlington no opportunity to try to make a comeback in the final quarter. The score was 25-15.

San Antonio is directly behind the St. Louis Battlehawks, with the same win-loss record (4-1) as St. Louis. On the other hand, Arlington is sitting fourth in the same conference, “XFL.” The Renegades have not rallied to a single win.

UFL MVP Moments

Brahmas running backs John Lovett and Morgan Ellison are package-deal winners of this game’s MVP award. They raked in 94% of the rushing yards for San Antonio this week. This running back duo is one to keep an eye on. Let’s have them compete against the Birmingham Stallions to see what they can really do.

Honorable MVP mentions go to Luis Perez for doing so well stats wise, but still being unable to win a game. Hopefully, week six is the week for Arlington. They’re bad, but they’re good enough to get a win. I believe in them. Do they ever play the Houston Roughnecks? Just asking for a friend…

Were My UFL Predictions Last Week Correct?

My predictions on the best games to watch and potential outcomes can be found here. Let’s compare notes together and see how wrong I am! And read all of The Forkball’s UFL content for all five weeks here while you’re at it!

I predicted that the Michigan Panthers and Memphis Showboats would be like-skilled teams that would demonstrate consistent, reliable play. I was wrong. Make sure to catch Jamie Malloy’s excellent article on that blowout of a game here.

I had the thought that readers who enjoyed others experiencing pain would be the ideal audience for the Birmingham Stallions-Houston Roughnecks game, and I could not have been more right. Another blowout of epic proportion. You can find the article on that game, along with the rest of The Forkball’s UFL articles, at the link above.

An easy win that makes you feel a little bad for the losers is the perfect description of the San Antonio Brahmas and Arlington Renegades, as we discussed. A+ to me!

Last but not least, I predicted that the St. Louis Battlehawks would clearly win against Michigan. I was right about that, too. For more details on the game, check out Angela Miele’s slam-dunk summary of the game here.

I was right 75% of the time, which makes me an expert. Make sure to catch my article on the Houston Roughnecks-Birmingham Stallions game for my predictions on the outcome of week 6 games, rated (by an expert).
